PS5 PS4 PlayStation

The portents appear to be aligning for a PS5 hardware revision coming this year. Earlier, we brought you word that a European price cut suggests that could be the case, and now even Microsoft is getting in on the action, claiming in court filings relating to Xbox's ongoing Activision acquisition attempt that Sony is "expected to release" a "PS5 Slim" and a "handheld version of PlayStation 5" in 2023.

We imagine this casual outing of a PS5 revision (not to mention its specific price of $399.99 USD), which is thought to feature a detachable disc drive and has long been rumoured, might have caused Sony head honcho Jim Ryan some consternation. Reaching the attached footnote, which itself offhandedly reveals both the pricing and release window for the recently unveiled Project Q ($300 USD, later this year), we wouldn't blame Ryan for just taking the rest of the day off at that point.

What do you think of this revelation from Microsoft and the associated release and pricing information that goes along with it? Are you in the market for a PS5 Slim? Look at the bright side of these ongoing legal proceedings in the comments section below.
